Formaldehyde, a strong-smelling, colourless gas, is used in building materials and chemical manufacturing. Exposure to high levels of formaldehyde has been linked to health issues, such as eye, nasal, throat and chest irritation. Scientific evidence also confirms that it poses particular risks to children and older adults.

When wood is processed into panels like particleboard and fibreboard, commonly used in furniture production, formaldehyde emissions can increase.

To address this, we source wood imported exclusively from Australia and New Zealand with much lower emissions and work closely with our suppliers to continually improve quality and process. We also prioritise adhesives that are either formaldehyde-free or have significantly reduced emissions.
